Agnes Welcomes You...

Be what you would seem to be -- or, if you'd like it put more simply -- Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.~The Duchess

The Actual Shoot + Hells Yeah I Borrowed Dead Things

Ok folks...so THIS is the shoot I've been hootin' & hollerin' about for like a month. It's basically awesome. I brought all sorts of table detrius & even borrowed some skulls from a taxidermy friend of mine which made everything infinitely cooler.
By the way, if you know people who own dead things: absolutely under no circumstances should you NOT ask to borrow them...unless it's like dead PEOPLE or parts in freezers and stuff 'cause that's gross and pretty illegal I think. Animals are ok though...like foxes. I am patiently waiting for stuffed things to come my way so that I can immediately photograph them with pretty things. God I'm weird.

Adult-type Details:
Photographer: Me...duh
Assistant: Emily L
Hair Accessories & Renaissance Woman: Jade Rose
Models: Erin W & Kyleen O
Makeup: Everyone but me 'cause I don't do that crap
Hair: Deven Miller

Anyway, Jade handled all the human stuff (models, make up, clothes) whilst I handled all the creepy shit like dead things & the security guards at the park. Which, by the way, are like the best/worst security guards on all the planet...I totally sweet talked our hot asses onto the rides which apparently is strictly forbidden. Except to pretty girls with big hair and makeup and junk.
Erin & Kyleen were incredibly good sports about the whole thing...models are awesome like that, you know? Like "oh hey, wanna climb on some rickety shit in heels so I can "get the shot"?"..."sure, no problem". You'd never see my ass up on stuff like that. Models rock...except Naomi Campbell...I hear she's a real scorpion.

I wish I could figure out how to make these pictures bigger or closer together or fancy or whatever. I'm an artist dammit...not a stupid computer programmer. But I DID figure out that if you click on the pictures they get all big & fabulous so I guess there's that.

So that's basically it...there are more but seriously people? Stop being so damn greedy. More later.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this shoot! I wanna do moooore.

Agnes OUT.

These Things Have Come & Gone But I'm Posting Them 'Cause That's What Bloggers Do...I Think...

Soooo like a bagillion years ago I decided I wanted to do an Alice In Wonderland inspired shoot with some of my jewelry & some of Jade's designs. It was mostly an opportunity to showcase our schtuff PLUS show off all the random shit I keep in my apartment. Which, let's face it, is far cooler than the shit in your apartment. No really it is. My episode of Hoarders is gonna be like the best episode EVER. Hipster Hoarder. Anyrandomjunk, these are the "test" shots from that shoot. The REAL shoot already happened like 2 weeks ago & I'll post those too...all in due time dearies.

In all reality, I like this shoot as a separate entity considering how different it turned out from the following set. Kind of like the first Willy Wonka compared to the fuckery/coolness Tim Burton version. (Dear Tim Burton, I would like to climb around in your brain & look at all the weird shit in there. Love, Agnes) Moving on...

P.S. Erin is a kick-ass model & I love her.

I decided I wanted to tinker with color a bit...I like tinkering..

There are literally so many pictures in this set I have a hard time picking. FIERCE. Good lord I love all the table detritus...I mean, who keeps this kind of crap around them at all times. Me. I do. Because I'm weird. Stop judging me.

I Make-A Your Band Famous...

So, those of you that know me know that I work with teens, big-upping the youth and so forth. A few months back we decided to host a "band showcase" night featuring a few Jr. High Schoolers from my program. These kids rock. AND they're not complete assholes which is a rare combo when you're dealing with 14 year olds that have groupies. I took this opportunity to take a few "band" shots with them so I would have some pictures for flyers and such. These are some of the goodies...

The Makings Of A Blog...

Helloooooo blogosphere! This is my first entry in hopefully many posts about my reluctant journey back into the world of photography. I loved it...I lost it...now I just find it kinda sexy. I'd like to think of my forays into photography as a sort of artistic booty call. Always there when I need it, quietly waiting when I don't. No regrets in the mornin'...

I started taking pictures, as most girls do, in high school (pictures of feet & lawn chairs, that sort of thing). Turns out I was ok at it so I kept it up in college, where I surreptitiously dropped out to go to art school. I love darkrooms. There is something undeniably cathartic about developing something beautiful from scratch & I fell in love with every bit of the process. I rolled my own film... agitated every 30 seconds...mixed the chemicals & single handedly ruined countless pairs of wooden tongs.

Now in them there days we didn't have no "digital" cameras...we had to WAIT to see how our pictures looked. But after a while I started to watch the world of instant gratification rise up around me & it was no longer kosher to love "the process". I dabbled in Senior portraits, weddings & the like but could never keep up with pace or pressure. It took the joy out of it for me. So I stopped...found other things to satisfy my creative itch.

I watched the Pentax get dusty while I painted or glued until I finally decided to give digital a shot. At this point I was so far behind the times I had no hope of feeling "professional"...where the hell is the f-stop ring on this thing?! Why do I have to adjust the white balance?! It wasn't pretty. Very caveman meets cell phone. Maybe if I shake it real hard it will do what I want. Notsomuch....turns out.

What saved my photographic soul in the end was the realization that my long lost darkroom wasn't lost after all...it had just evolved into something far cooler. EDITING. Ohhhh I love to edit! I love taking kick-ass photos then making them awesomer (new word). It doesn't get any better than that. Now that I have this new found curiosity I have decided to post my findings & tomfoolery on this blog.

I'm always open for tips & ideas...models...designers...whatever. Bring it.
